We were looking for a name, something simple that could leave a lasting impression as well as represent our multitude of Latine voices. 

Xoloitzcuintle is a very distinct looking dog brought from Asia with first settlers on the continent into Mexico nearly four-thousand years ago. Time honored and resilient, this hairless elegant’s name comes directly from Aztecan lore.

In the story, Xolotl is the god of fire and lightning who so loves the human race that he takes the shape of this distinct hairless pointy-eared dog in order to accompany and protect the Aztec people through the underworld into eternity. 

Since then Xoloitzcuintli has become a touchstone of the culture. Frida Kahlo and Pablo Rivera frequently included Xoloitzcuintli in their art further emblemizing the breed as heritage itself. 

At Xolo we are taking on that ancient sense of responsibility and stewardship, building on heritage and always looking ahead to breathe life into something new.
